Alix London has a promising career as an art consultant, a sumptuous condo in Seattle’s toniest neighborhood, a gorgeous figure, and a presence that exudes Ivy League breeding and old money. She has it all…or does she? Only Alix knows that the image she presents to the world is a carefully constructed mirage that veils an embarrassing truth. A brilliant, once-promising art student, the daughter of a prominent New York art conservator, her world was left in ruins when her father went to prison for art forgery. Now a Harvard dropout with an emptied bank account, she is languishing in a career that has produced little more than a lucky house-sitting gig. But all of that changes when Alix meets Christine Lemay, a novice art collector with money to burn and a hot tip on a recently discovered painting by American master Georgia O’Keeffe. Chris hires Alix to perform the authentication, an assignment that finally could launch Alix into the big leagues. But soon after her arrival in Santa Fe, she finds herself tangled up in a web of forgery, deceit—and murder. Anxious to avoid becoming the next victim, she teams up with FBI Special Agent Ted Ellesworth—and gets a little unlikely help from her roguish father—to uncover the truth behind the painting and those who would kill to have it. Sharp, witty, and devilishly fun, A Dangerous Talent offers an insider’s look into the surprisingly treacherous contemporary art world.

**********

A Dangerous Talent was a really fun read. I won't vouch for the accuracy of the artistic facts, I'm not an expert in that area. However, the main character, Alix London, is. Alix has an interesting history in the art world, and it's a history that doesn't really help her reputation. With a father convicted for forgery, she's had a hard time finding clients that will trust her.

But she does have a few, and the newest one, Christine Lemay, has decided she just must have a Georgia O'Keefe. And so begins Alix's first trip into mystery and mayhem. Chris and Alix are a great team. Chris is the loud and wonderfully outrageous woman that doesn't care what anyone thinks, and is a nice balance to Alix's much more conservative nature.

A simple trip to view and authenticate Chris's painting turns out to involve a dead body, an explosion, and an FBI agent. With a great mix of mystery and action, and maybe the beginnings of something with a certain hunky guy. This may not top the list of all-time favorites, but A Dangerous Talent was something I was very happy to stumble upon.

Samirah Lundgren is living the party girl life. While she's trying to forget about her past and put off having a meaningful future, her lifestyle catches up with her, leaving her in a wake of personal destruction. Alone and homeless, she encounters Michael Salinger, a man carrying his own baggage in the form of a spinal cord injury, not to mention his former fiancĂ© is marrying his former best friend.

Can a man with a broken body and a woman with a broken soul help each other find the redemption they need to become whole again?

**********
This was an incredibly moving story. It starts out with a questionable heroine that I wasn't sure I was going to like or want to root for. But I ended up falling in love with Sami. I quickly realized that she wasn't out to hurt people or steal someone's husband, but she was trying to find something in herself to value. Within the first couple chapters, I found a depth in her character that was unexpected and wonderful.

Michael was another one I had a hard time with at first. I think I was supposed to. He's put up a wall around everything in his life and pushed everyone away. He's so determined not to let anyone hurt him again, that he's destroying himself. You can't help but feel for the man who lost so much, and you really want him to just open up and let life back in.

Their romance isn't a traditional one. They both have so much to work through and it almost consumes their lives. But watching as they slowly build each other up in such positive ways was amazing. It was a true romance - not love/lust at first sight. It was life, pure and not so simple.

These two broken souls ended up being perfect for each other. Both looking for someone to trust and relate to. Someone that understands their brokenness in a way most people never will. A beautifully told, semi-clean romance with an HEA that almost made me cry.

But the friendship starts to change when Victor develops deeper feelings for her. If that wasn’t complicated enough, newcomer James Turner, an emancipated minor with a dark past, wanders into her sights. Leath is captivated by him and wonders if he might be the boy of her dreams—literally.

Fading is the first book in an exciting new fantasy romance series by award-winning author Cindy Cipriano.

About Fading:
One-liner for Fading?
He could be the boy of her dreams – literally.

More details?
Seventeen-year old Leath Elliott has given up on dating boys from Woodvine, NC when James Turner wanders into her sights. Leath is captivated by James, an emancipated minor with a dark past and begins to wonder if he is the boy of her dreams.

Where did the idea come from for Fading?
One of the locations in the story is Judaculla Rock. This is a real 3,000 year old petroglyph located in western North Carolina. I’ve visited the boulder several times and was intrigued by the legends and speculation that surrounds Judaculla Rock.

What genre is Fading?
Young adult.
But – Fading crosses genres. It’s a paranormal romance colliding with a dystopia. Fading is also a crossover, appealing to young adult and older readers.

Who would enjoy reading Fading?
Anyone who has ever been in love with two people at the same time. J

Favorite lines from Fading:
I wanted to touch him. So I did. (pg. 1)
The first time I held hands with Victor Santana, it wasn’t romantic. Not at all. (pg. 3)
Victor’s strong hand cradled mine, and he became my tether to reality. (pg. 3)
His warm lips brushed against my ear as he whispered three little words. “I can wait.” (pg. 6)
Name James Turner. Age 17. Parents Emancipated Minor. (pgs. 10-11)
“I don’t usually get this close to a girl, unless I’m going to kiss her,” said the boy, giving me a playful grin. (pg. 23)
When we were apart, it seemed as if all of eternity passed before I saw him again. (pg. 110)
To one boy, I’d gladly give my heart. To the other, my life. (pg. 130)
I wondered how long a person could live like this, so completely torn in half. (pg. 130)
She could have any boy in the restaurant. Why was she falling all over mine? (pg. 147)
But right now I had him. The boy of my dreams. (pg. 174)
“I will never stop loving you,” he said. “Not even in death.” (pg. 268)
James is sort of a two-sides-to-one-coin kind of guy. Was it difficult writing his character?
Definitely, but so worth it!
*sighs*
He’s drop-dead gorgeous and funny, but he hovers over dark territory. It was a challenge writing him because I wanted my readers to see what Leath sees in James.

And Leath’s other love interest, Victor, was it hard to write him?
Not a bit.
*sighs again*
Victor is the definition of the perfect guy. He’s good-looking, funny, confident and charismatic. Not to mention he has an exceptionally beautiful heart.

Who is your favorite character in Fading?
Ever. The girl you love to hate. I think we’re all hoping that in the end, she’ll do the right thing. The problem is we lose a faith in her each time she opens her mouth.

Who designed the cover of Fading?
The talented Marya Heidel. Isn’t it stunning?!

How many books are in the Fading series? There will be 3-4 books in the series. I have finished the 2nd and I am working on the 3rd.
How can readers keep up with you and the Fading series?
Anything and everything about the Fading series can be found at Clean Teen Publishing or CindyCipriano.com.

French Vanilla and Felonies by Erin Huss ~ Review

Title: French Vanilla & Felonies (Cambria Clyne Mysteries #1)
Author: Erin Huss
Genre: Adult, Romantic Comedy
Length: 248 pages
Publisher: Gemma Halliday Publishing
Release Date: March 13, 2018

Reviewed by: Jasmyn
Note: Was originally read as the title For Rent

When Cambria Clyne—klutzy, twenty-something single mom—takes the job of an apartment manager at an LA complex, she hopes her run of bad luck is finally coming to an end. She's got a nice home for her daughter, a steady source of income, and the cute maintenance guy is certainly a nice perk! But her luck takes a bad turn again when a dead body turns up, a crime spree takes over the community, and Cambria finds her complex squarely at the center of it all!

With her dream job suddenly on the line, Cambria dons her detective hat to get to the truth—after all, she's watched enough crime shows on TV to know how to catch a perp! Or so she hopes as she wades through a streaker in apartment 40, an ex-con with a shady agenda, an overly frisky retired couple, and the suspiciously sneaky dealings of the dentist in apartment 36. But will Cambria be able to catch a killer... or will she get caught up in his game and lose it all?

**********

For Rent (or French Vanilla & Felonies) was a really fun read. Light-hearted, at times ridiculous, with just enough of the feels to string your emotions along a little. Cambria is a struggling single mom. And when she lands the job of a lifetime, she'd do anything to keep it. Bad luck follows her though, and she finds herself under attack (verbally) from the apartment residents that are convinced she's responsible for the recent crime spree in the building.

The residents are just beyond belief. They are some of the best secondary characters I've read in a long time. Each is very unique and stands out (some are ridiculous - but it's a comedy so that's ok) and has their own reasons for wanting Cambria gone.

But job of a lifetime remember? Cambria's attempts to solve the serious crimes around the building, along with the ones she seems to make up as she goes, never turn out well. And of course, the cute maintenance man is always there to see her fall. The sparks begin to heat up here but they do take a little longer to actually fly than some romances.

The mystery part of this book is just as prevalent as the romance and really adds that extra layer to the story. But please remember - this is a comedy - so don't get upset when things go crazy.

Losing Adam by Adrienne Clarke ~ Guest Post

Re-imagining Famous Fairy Tales by Adrienne Clarke

Audrey Hepburn said, “If I’m honest I have to tell you, I still read fairy tales and I love them best of all.” So I’m in good company when I say that I love fairy tales and often look to them for inspiration in my own writing. This is especially true in my new YA/NA novel, Losing Adam, which is partly inspired by The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Andersen.

The first time I read The Snow Queen as a little girl, I was intrigued by the Snow Queen’s haughty beauty and her mysterious world of ice and snow. Like all good fairy tales, there was a compelling dichotomy between the Snow Queen’s cold cruelty and the warm and loving friendship between Gerta and Kai. And when Kai is spirited away by the Snow Queen on her silver sled, the fight between good and evil ensues.

What stayed with me most about The Snow Queen, however, was the somewhat unusual circumstance of the girl rescuing the boy. Gerta’s bravery, her determination to help her friend no matter what the cost, was first instance of female bravery I encountered in my reading life. Encountering numerous obstacles in her journey to rescue Kai, Greta faced each one with courage and intelligence.

Rereading The Snow Queen as an adult I admired Greta even more, and, inspired by her example, I began to create my own heroine. Like Greta, my character would risk everything for love, even the wrath of a queen with ice around her heart. In my novel, Losing Adam, the Snow Queen is a metaphor for mental illness, and the obstacles my characters face are different, but like Greta and Kai they too are on a journey. And in true fairy tale form, appearances are deceptive. In both stories, what begins as a straightforward search and rescue mission, eventually transforms into a search for self that culminates in an understanding of life’s uncertainty. How one moment you can hold spring and all if its infinite possibilities in the palm of your hand, and the next you’re trying to grasp a handful of snow as it melts through your fingers.

Aside from thematic similarities, I hope that what Losing Adam has in common with the original tale is complexity. With each reading, the reader will come away with fresh insights into the story and is characters. And most of all, I hope Losing Adam will resonate with readers, and that it will find a place in their heart as all the best stories do.

How can the person she loves most in the world suddenly become someone she doesn’t recognize? As Adam drifts farther and farther away into the Snow Queen’s mysterious world of ice and snow, Jenny believes she must fight to bring him back or risk losing him forever.

Vividly narrated by Adam and Jenny, the struggle to understand the impact of Adam’s mental illness, forces both characters on a journey of self-discovery that leads to understanding about life’s uncertainty, the power of first love, and the pain of letting go. Genre: Adult, Romantic Suspense
Publishr: Malachite Publishing LLC
Release Date: April 3, 2018

When a real princess falls in love with a man who is definitely not a prince, a royal fairy tale turns dangerous.

ONCE UPON A TIME, there was a beautiful princess, Flicka von Hannover, who lived an enchanted life. She jetted around Europe staging charity events with friends, had married a handsome prince in the most spectacular royal wedding of the 21st century, and should have lived happily ever after.

But then she found the handsome prince in bed with a duchess. And then a coffee shop barista. And then her own goddamn secretary.

Finally, the beautiful princess had had enough of the cheating prince, and she ran away.
Once she had stepped out of the royal fairy tale, life became grayer, grittier, and rougher. The prince didn’t like that she had left and sent henchmen to take her back to the castle. Her worried royal brother sent people to look for her, too.

But the princess didn’t want to be found. The princess got a job as a waitress in a diner in New York City and made her own way in the world. Even cut off from everyone she knew, she was more resourceful than she had thought she might be. She did okay. From hiding, she sent legal separation papers and then divorce documents, but the prince wouldn’t sign them. He said he wouldn’t let her go. Even in these modern times, the prince could lock the princess up in a dungeon of legal forms and provisions that she wouldn’t be able to break out of. The prince wanted his princess back because he couldn’t take his throne without her.

Until a man walked into her diner one day, one who was frankly not a handsome prince.
He was the last man on Earth the princess should have fallen in love with.

Flicka glanced around them, finally remembering some operational protocol.
She said, Dance with me.
Dieter looked out over the crowd of targets and potential perpetrators. Im on duty.
Everyone is looking at us because we are just standing here, arguing. Were too conspicuous. Dance with me so people will stop staring.
He had never danced with her in public. The lapse in protocol would have been insane. Its your wedding reception. You just married your husband. You should be dancing with him and mingling.
I have mingled and made the rounds and greeted until even I, a classic extrovert, am terribly tired of peopling.
Dancing with me would be inappropriate.
She laughed. Everybody thinks youre like an uncle to me.
That felt like a punch to the gut on so many levels. Could you say anything to make me feel worse?
Even Wulf thinks that. Her brother, and Dieter’s best friend.
And there it is. The banter felt friendly, even normal, and he succumbed to it.
Come on. Dance with me, Flicka insisted and held her arms out for him to slide into the waltzing position.
Not taking her in his arms would look more suspicious than just accepting.
Dieter Schwarz, son of no one and owner of nothing, former military officer with no past known before his conscription as if he had dropped out of a cloud onto a Swiss mountain peak, took the hand of Her Serene Highness Friederike Augusta von Hannover and rested his hand on her waist.
The bandage on his arm where the bullet had creased his biceps that morning bulged under his suit jacket.
The tiny beads encrusting her reception dress were sharp against his palm and fingers, and her other hand was as delicate as a breeze in his.
Twice, that day, he had felt her skin against his flesh.
He hadnt touched her for two years.
Only a thin layer of silk and glass beads separated his palm and fingers from the soft skin of her back.
That morning when he had seen the sunlight flash on the telescopic sight atop the gun, he dove for Flicka and gathered her body and limbs under his. Hed pressed his cheek to her forehead as bullets slammed the ground around him and burrowed through the meat of his arm.
And now, this innocent dance with the bride of the evening, her slender body bending in his arms and her hand clasped in his, was the second time he had touched her today and in as many years.
Every thought drifted away from him except that Flicka von Hannover was in his arms again.
Everyone thought he was like an uncle to her.
Everyone except him and her, who knew better.
Her lithe form swayed inches from his chest. Roses perfumed her skin, and he breathed in that familiar, maddening scent.
Dieters attention drew back from the crowd and the vantage points above and the jackals in the room. He focused on Flickas warmth in his hands.
The orchestra was playing a waltz.
Dieter stepped toward Flicka as she stepped back, and he steered her through the crowd.
Flicka asked, Is he going to ask her to marry him tonight?
He told me he would. Rae is the sweetest, kindest woman Ive ever met.
I am standing right here.
Yeah, I know.
Asshole. She moved a little closer to his chest.
Dieter slid his hand farther around her back. The tiny beads felt rough on his palm and caught on his calluses. Rae doesnt want to burn the world down.
Flicka shrugged. Occupational hazard.
