Artificial Sweethearts by Julie Hammerle ~ Character Interview

Artificial Sweethearts by Julie Hammerle
Release Date: 7/10/17

About the book:

It’s not chemistry between Tinka Foster and Sam Anderson that made them agree to fake date. With her parents trying to set her up with an annoying student golf coach, and intentionally single Sam’s family pressuring him to bring a date to his brother’s wedding, they could both use a drama-free summer.

So it’s not his muscular arms and quick wit that makes Tinka suggest they tell everyone they’re both taken. Definitely not. And it’s not butterflies that makes a kiss for appearances during the lake party go on way too long—so long that Sam wishes it were real.

But Tinka keeps people at arm’s length—she’s always been second best, even to her parents. And her relationship-for-show could crush everything when she realizes she’s done with fake, pretend, and second-best.

Disclaimer: This Entangled Teen Crush book contains bikinis at the lake, a lot of making out in dark theaters, and a meet-cute you’ll read twice.

Character Interview with Tinka:

What is your favorite part of summer?

Usually, I love the bit of freedom that comes with summer, being at home during the day while my parents are at work. But now that they’ve moved to North Pole, all that’s changed. My mom’s quit her job, and she expects me to help remodel the new house. And my dad has made plans for me to golf with him every single day. I’m not getting a lot of time to do my own thing. Sam’s been a great help in this area. He says I can use him as an excuse to escape any time I want.

Tell us why Sam is your best friend.

Sam gets me. He got me right away. We’ve dealt with some similar issues in our lives, and we’ve both had a hard time opening up to our families about our feelings. I think we push the each other to be more open with our parents and siblings, or, failing that, we know we can at least be honest with each other. Also, he’s just, like, the best person on the planet to hug.

Favorite movie?

My favorite movie from when I was a kid is Girls Just Want To Have Fun. My friend Karen’s mom was the one who introduced it to us, actually. The whole “girl with overbearing parents wants to do something they won’t agree with” thing really resonated with me, and still does. Also, the movie is hilarious. It’s ridiculous. Helen Hunt is my style icon. I’d love to be able to pull of dinosaur barrettes.

Favorite junk food?

I love to bake, but don’t eat the results too often, honestly. It’d be dangerous if I did. Because I’m around sugar so much, when I crave something, it’s usually salty. An open bag of chips won’t stay full for long in my presence. My favorites right now are Garden Salsa Sun Chips. I feel like, if I squint, I can pretend they’re almost healthy, even though I know they’re not.

Night owl or early riser?

Early riser, mostly because of the golf thing. I’ve had so many early tee times, it’s affected my sleep patterns.
