Teaser Tuesday (7)

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

"So what are you going to do? Give each potential husband the barf test?" he asked.  "Puke on his shoes and see what happens?"

I Like Him, He Likes Her: Alice Alone; Simply Alice; Patiently Alice by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor pg. 409.

Although I had never thought about it until this line, it would be nice to have a husband that didn't get grossed out when you were sick.  I love the dialog between Alice and her brother, Lester in this book - makes me wish I had an older brother, too.

Book Blurb:
Find a Penny pick it up and all day long you’ll have good luck…except, of course, if that Penny is charming and pretty and funny, and the person picking her up just happens to be your boyfriend. Alice McKinley’s freshman year is not as “lucky” as she was hoping it would be. But she’s is trying to look on the bright side. There are worse things than being single for a semester… for a school year…for the whole summer…. At least Alice can count on her best friends for support—in theory, anyway. Lately they haven’t been all that there-for-her. In fact, it seems like Pam and Liz are suddenly involved in intense, secret conversations whenever Alice is around.
Single is starting to feel a whole lot like solo.

"Nik had said rest.  And although she resisted the idea because it felt like time wasted, maybe rest was in order.  After all, tomorrow would be the day she stole a goddess from a demon."

Fire by T.G. Ayer - Kindle loc 2663 of 4247

This is one of my favorite lines from this book.  I can only imagine how much I would be freaking out if I had to steal a goddess from a demon.  Not sure I'd be able to sleep either.

"This was much more work than I'd anticipated.  Walking - no, gliding over to the settee while keeping my ears raised, I sat down gently and crossed my legs"

pg. 39 Living London by Kristin Vayden

This lesson in regency posture was quite humorous.  I'd never heard anyone tell a young lady to keep their ears raised before!  Sounds like so much work.  I'm sure I wouldn't have made it.

I want nothing more than to lie down in the mud, but as my knees buckle, his grip on my upper arms tightens, holding me up.  When he stands he pulls me with him.  "Can you run?"

pg. 149 ARC of These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner

This quote really showed me how exhausted she was.  I can't imagine wanting to just lay down in the mud...gross...I'd have to be beyond worn out to want to do that.  And then to be asked to run???  There must be something really great ahead - or really bad behind.

"It was like diving into a pool of music.  It was everywhere, soaking into my skin and driving me crazy, consuming me."
pg 78 (Kindle Edition) Faster We Burn (Fall and Rise, Book Two) by Chelsea M. Cameron

I absolutely love this quote.  I can remember listening to music that was able to suck me in that deep - it's hard to find, but when you do, it's amazing.  Have you ever had a song feel that way?

Anna shrugged. "What can I say?  The house is small, and the man does have stamina."

"You don't need to be hateful," I whispered.
"If you ask me, I'd say the princess prefers a dark knight." Ginger smirked and too a long drink of her beer.
