Published by: Swoon Reads
Publication date: July 18th 2017
Genres: Romance, Science Fiction, Young Adult
Delaney’s entire world is thrown into chaos after she is mistaken for Lissa Olena, an alien princess hiding out on Earth in order to escape an arranged marriage.
Kidnapped by the princess’s head bodyguard, Ruckus, and imprisoned in an alien palace, Delaney is forced to impersonate the princess until Olena can be found. If she fails, it will lead to an alien war and the eventual enslavement of the entire human race.
No pressure or anything.
Factor in Trystan, the princess’s terrifying betrothed who is intent on unraveling all her secrets, and her own growing feelings for Ruckus, and Delaney is in way over her head.
Get lost Amid Stars and Darkness, in this YA sci-fi romance from debut author Chani Lynn Feener.

**********
I really enjoyed Amid Stars and Darkness. When Delaney is accidentally kidnapped and taken to an alien home planet, she's understandably confused, frightened, and wondering how she's going to get back home. When she finds out she has to pretend to be the alien princess, well, she doesn't take that too well. But that's not all (of course) the princess is supposed to get married soon to seal an alliance for peace, and Delaney needs to convince the world, the court, and "her" fiance that she's really Princess Olena or the whole alliance could fall apart. No pressure or anything.

The set up was great, most of the characters were great. I wanted to see more of the alien court, the kind and queen, the guards, the nobles (if they had them). I understood keeping Delaney isolated to make her impersonation easier, but it left the alien world feeling a little flat. I also couldn't keep the various factions and alien terms straight - and they played an important part at times. There were not many, but the important ones were introduced all at once so they kept getting switched around in my head.

Ruckus, the princess's bodyguard, and leading male character was amazing. A bit of the strong silent type, he played off Delaney's talkative and bold characteristics very well. Their romance was a bit underplayed though. I wanted to see more bonding in some way.

A great story, it's perfect for people who like a little bit of light sci-fi in their stories, but there's just enough for more hardcore sci-fi fans to get into as well.

Well Built by Carly Phillips and Erika Wilde ~ Excerpt

SBPRBanner-WB-ER.jpg

Well Built a sexy new second chance standalone from Carly Phillips and Erika Wilde is coming July 25th!

CPEWWellBuiltCover5x8_BW_300-1

Well Built by Carly Phillips and Erika Wilde Publication Date: July 25th

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Synopsis

When it comes to women, sexy, well-built Kyle Coleman has always been a lover, not a fighter. His one exception? The tempting, beautiful Ella Fisher. Her family and his share a tempestuous past, which make the two of them as a couple off-limits—despite the fact that she inspires some of his dirtiest fantasies. He's kept his hands off of her for years . . . until the lines between family loyalty and lust become irrevocably blurred one fateful evening and changes everything between them.

Excerpt:

As they stared at one another and Ella's smile faded away, Kyle reached out and dragged the pad of his thumb along her soft cheek and didn't hold back what he was feeling. "Is it selfish of me that I'm glad that you're stuck in the city and here with me right now?" "No," she whispered, not bothering to hide the longing and desire shining in her eyes. "Is it selfish of me that I want you, even knowing it can only be for this one night?" Another bold and daring invitation that was wreaking havoc with his dwindling willpower. "Ella . . . " His voice was gruff as he watched her tongue shyly skim across her full bottom lip. "You're making it so damn hard to be good." "I don't want you to be good. I really want you to be bad. With me." She lifted her hand and touched the cool tips of her fingers against the hollow of his throat, then slowly, gradually caressed them down the middle of his chest, along his abs, and followed the thin trail of hair that led to the waistband of his boxer briefs and the hard length of his eager cock. He groaned, his chest heaving, and before she could cup him in her hand, he grabbed her hips and hauled her body up against his. She gasped, her eyes widening, but not in shock. No, they were fucking triumphant because she'd finally gotten what she wanted. Then again, when it came to Ella, she'd been his greatest weakness, and he'd always given her whatever she desired. Why had he thought this would be any different? He backed her up, and when her ass hit the edge of his dining table, he lifted her so she was sitting on the flat surface. Holding her gaze, he pushed her thighs wide apart and stepped in between, making sure she could feel every fucking inch of his aching dick pressing against that sweet spot between her legs. He buried his hands in her hair, gently tugging on the roots to tip her head back so she couldn't look away. And Jesus, the need in her eyes, all for him, nearly slayed every last bit of his control. "Are you sure about this?" he asked, because he didn't want her to wake up in the morning with regrets. She was already unbuttoning the shirt she was wearing, revealing the soft, delectable curves of her breasts, her smooth, flat stomach . . . "Absolutely sure," she breathed huskily. "Just this one night, Kyle. Please." It was that last word that shattered his resolve and had him crushing his lips against hers in a hungry, endless kiss while she desperately shrugged out of his shirt until it pooled around her on the table. His tongue swept over hers, the connection turning hotter, deeper, as he angled her head so he had full access to every part of her mouth. Jesus Christ, he wanted to fucking own her.

Excerpt:
Every house I’d ever lived in had been a version of the same basic plan. Enter in the front door. To your right are three bedrooms lined up in a row. Straight in front of you is a living/dining area. To the left is the kitchen. Bathrooms are sprinkled in.
There were minor differences. Sometimes the bedrooms were to the left and the kitchen to the right. And occasionally a family room extended from the dining room. But I pretty much always knew what the house would look like before I ever stepped foot inside.
We were always renters and this time was no different. When you can’t be sure how long your job will last, you can’t commit to buying a house. And even if we wanted to buy, my family was always short of cash. Money was even tighter since my parents tried to help my brothers out with some of their college costs, as much as they could.
“I tried to fix things up nice for you,” Dad said apologetically. “But there are a few problems that still need taking care of.”
I immediately knew what one of those problems was when I walked through the door. Fans were blowing air from every corner of every room and still it felt like I was soaking in a hot tub. A disturbingly moldy smell made me nauseous, like when you throw a wet towel in the dirty laundry hamper and then discover it a week later. Still wet and still dirty.
“We’re here now and I don’t start work until next week,” Mom said brightly. “We’ll get everything straightened out, won’t we Baby?” My mom calls me Baby. Waaah!
“Apart from the obvious air conditioner malfunction,” my dad went on, “I’m sorry to say I’m also having issues with the Wi-Fi and cable.”
“What kind of issues?” Air conditioning was one thing. Wi-Fi and cable was non-negotiable. But my dad was notoriously tech-ignorant so I didn’t immediately panic. I was pretty handy at tweaking routers and modems after so many moves.
“They claimed everything was set up but I can’t get anything to work. I called them and they put us back on the bottom of the waiting list. Next week.” My dad looked at me sheepishly. “Sorry.”
I felt bad for my dad. He never lost the optimism that each new move would be the final one. The one we’d fall in love with and the job would be permanent and secure and we’d never move again. He wanted us to believe it too, but I’d had too many letdowns to buy into that. A busted air conditioner with no Wi-Fi or cable wasn’t exactly a promising start to our latest move. But you couldn’t move around as much as we did and survive if you were a whiner. That much, at least, I’d learned.
So much for Skyping with Perry if I couldn’t fix it myself. I would’ve texted him but I’d already tried my cell phone and we were out of the service area. Just great. In the middle of a pine forest on a street named after a fish and I couldn’t even send a text.
“Good news though, honey. You have a job in the tennis shop. Booking courts and lessons, ringing up purchases. Should be fun.”
Okay, it was kind of good news because I needed the money and I liked to stay busy. Sitting around the house all day, communing with whatever nature was outside our door wasn’t exactly part of my plan. Mom would be working in the golf shop and this was the life we were used to. “When do I start?”
“Next week. You and Mom settle in first. The moving truck comes Thursday.”

Artificial Sweethearts by Julie Hammerle ~ Character Interview

Artificial Sweethearts by Julie Hammerle
Release Date: 7/10/17

About the book:

It’s not chemistry between Tinka Foster and Sam Anderson that made them agree to fake date. With her parents trying to set her up with an annoying student golf coach, and intentionally single Sam’s family pressuring him to bring a date to his brother’s wedding, they could both use a drama-free summer.

So it’s not his muscular arms and quick wit that makes Tinka suggest they tell everyone they’re both taken. Definitely not. And it’s not butterflies that makes a kiss for appearances during the lake party go on way too long—so long that Sam wishes it were real.

But Tinka keeps people at arm’s length—she’s always been second best, even to her parents. And her relationship-for-show could crush everything when she realizes she’s done with fake, pretend, and second-best.

Disclaimer: This Entangled Teen Crush book contains bikinis at the lake, a lot of making out in dark theaters, and a meet-cute you’ll read twice.

**********
Character Interview with Tinka:

What is your favorite part of summer?

Usually, I love the bit of freedom that comes with summer, being at home during the day while my parents are at work. But now that they’ve moved to North Pole, all that’s changed. My mom’s quit her job, and she expects me to help remodel the new house. And my dad has made plans for me to golf with him every single day. I’m not getting a lot of time to do my own thing. Sam’s been a great help in this area. He says I can use him as an excuse to escape any time I want.

Tell us why Sam is your best friend.

Sam gets me. He got me right away. We’ve dealt with some similar issues in our lives, and we’ve both had a hard time opening up to our families about our feelings. I think we push the each other to be more open with our parents and siblings, or, failing that, we know we can at least be honest with each other. Also, he’s just, like, the best person on the planet to hug.

Favorite movie?

My favorite movie from when I was a kid is Girls Just Want To Have Fun. My friend Karen’s mom was the one who introduced it to us, actually. The whole “girl with overbearing parents wants to do something they won’t agree with” thing really resonated with me, and still does. Also, the movie is hilarious. It’s ridiculous. Helen Hunt is my style icon. I’d love to be able to pull of dinosaur barrettes.

Favorite junk food?

I love to bake, but don’t eat the results too often, honestly. It’d be dangerous if I did. Because I’m around sugar so much, when I crave something, it’s usually salty. An open bag of chips won’t stay full for long in my presence. My favorites right now are Garden Salsa Sun Chips. I feel like, if I squint, I can pretend they’re almost healthy, even though I know they’re not.

Night owl or early riser?

Early riser, mostly because of the golf thing. I’ve had so many early tee times, it’s affected my sleep patterns.
