Kidnapped by humans and raised in a research facility, Jett was taught to believe his own race of demons insidious and violent. But a friendship with the archangel Raphael shatters Jett’s reality. Caught between two worlds, his first months of freedom find him lingering on the fringes of his home colony, Sanctuary. When the human who stole Jett captures another demon youth from Sanctuary, Jett learns of the real plan—to steal Raphael’s archangel grandchildren. Jett wants to bring his captor to justice, but he must overcome the lies from his past and join forces with the demon Guardians, and the demon child’s older sister, Lexine.

Irresistible attraction grows between Jett and Lexine, but Lexine’s prophetic dreams of being mated to a poacher make her wary. And if Jett goes through the all-consuming process of becoming a Guardian, he may forfeit any chance they have of being together.

This book may be read as a stand-a-lone.  Only a little background on side characters is missed.

This book had an  interesting concept that really pulled me in from the very beginning.  Angels and demons not only living together, but the demons protecting the angels from human poachers - out to harvest their feathers.  Jett lives in the woods surrounding a demon city that protects the archangel Raphael and his family.  When humans come to Sanctuary trying to kidnap the twin baby angels, Jett is drawn to help them.  We see bits and pieces of his very very complicated history throughout the story, and it's a fascinating one.  I don't know if I'd read about a more tortured soul.

He meets another demon, Lexine, that is haunted by dreams showing her marrying their sworn enemy, the poacher.  But prophetic dreams, while always true, aren't always as clear as they seem.  When she meets Jett she hopes that she may be able to change her future.

This story was full of suspense, romance, and emotional turmoil.  So much happened from start to finish that it's hard to explain or classify the book. It was difficult to find a place to put it down.  More than just a romance, this book is also the story of Jett finding himself after a very troubled past.
