Book Beginnings on Friday (6)

Book Beginnings on Friday at Rose City Reader is the place to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires.

My choice this week is from The Gatekeeper's Sons by Eva Pohler, a young adult paranormal/mythology.

"Therese Mills peeled the white gloves off her sweaty hands as soon as she and her parents were in the car.  Now that her mother's thing was over, she could finally get home and out of this blue dress."

This seems like a simple and laid back opening - you can begin to feel Therese's relief at being released from the event she attended and how she looks forward to getting into something more comfortable.  Does she make it there?  My review will be up on the 29th as part of a tour, so I don't want to give too much away!

  1. Ah, the opener gives us a peek into the character and her feelings. I like that. Here's MY FRIDAY MEMES POST

  2. That's an interesting opening for the genre, since white gloves and uncomfortable dresses seem so old-fashioned – not what I expect from a YA paranormal novel.

Thanks for sharing the opening on Book Beginnings!
